Do people still cross stitch?

They surely do! I started nearly 40 years ago with a stamped cross stitch design. The actual project was 'stamped' onto the fabric and then you stitched the stamped design with cotton thread (typically DMC). As I evolved as a stitcher, a close friend introduced me to counted cross stitch and I was hooked. Counted cross stitch means that you counted the stitches that were marked on the pattern directly onto the fabric. The evolution of hand dyed fabrics and specialty fibers, such as silks, spurred on a new generation of stitchers and brought others back into the craft. Truly the art has been around for centuries as seen in folk museums (mainly in Europe and Asia) as cross stitching offers an inexpensive way to de-stress and unwind after a long day.
